In a strategic move to strengthen their defense, FC Cincinnati has reportedly secured the services of seasoned defender DeAndre Yedlin from Inter Miami CF. According to ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle, the acquisition comes with a transfer fee of $172,000 in General Allocation Money, while also providing Inter Miami with an additional $683,000 in salary budget space.
Yedlin, a 30-year-old right wing-back, is expected to fill the vacancy left by Santiago Arias’s departure, bringing a wealth of experience to the Cincinnati squad. His journey in Major League Soccer began with the Seattle Sounders in 2013, followed by stints in Europe with prominent clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Galatasaray, before joining Inter Miami in 2022.
The defender’s international career is equally impressive, having represented the U.S. men’s national team as recently as 2023. With 81 caps for the USMNT and participation in the 2014 and 2022 World Cup rosters, Yedlin’s experience on the global stage is set to be a valuable asset for FC Cincinnati.
Yedlin’s arrival comes on the heels of Cincinnati’s first MLS win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Chicago Fire. The team had previously started the season with a goalless draw against Toronto FC at home.
In addition to Yedlin, FC Cincinnati has been active in the transfer market, bringing in several other players for the 2024 season, including Pavel Bucha, Corey Baird, and Miles Robinson. The club’s strategic acquisitions indicate a strong commitment to building a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
